So after so much consideration and planning I have finally taken the plunge and started a website and blog! It has not been easy going and those of you that know me understand how technically minded I am (technology and maths are not my thing). This is the start of what I hope will be a long, fun and helpful journey for you as well as me. First of all let me say that all the planning in the world did not prepare me for this!
Well, I am a muppet; things are always more complicated than I think they will be and this experience was no different. Maybe it is just how I go about things and life in general. I should have known that what I thought would take an hour, would take a day and I am still not as far ahead with this site as I thought I might be. I wanted lots of images, maybe a video, and a couple of downloadable items, hopefully tomorrow.
I feel that time is running out. I don’t know what for, but I think if I have a very long life I will still not achieve what is in my head right now, and things are being added to ‘my head’ on a daily basis. Am I alone? Probably not. I am sure many crafters and artists feel the same. So, having read so much about what a website should include and how you should run a blog, you will not have much to ‘takeaway’ from this post, other than knowing that my first day of this site has been long, difficult but fun. Here are my first top tips:
Top Tips to starting a website/blog
- Plan, but don’t assume it will be easy! (we all know what ‘assume’ means)
- Get as much advice as you can, but it won’t make any sense if you are anything like me.
- Know what you are going to have on your site but also know it will take longer than you think.
- DO IT, I am sure it will be worth it in the end.
